Jessica M. Cowan
LCSW, PMH-C, IMH-E
Hi! I’m so happy you have chosen to take the time to learn a little bit about me! I’m Jessica (Jessi) Cowan, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over a decade of experience in supporting infants, children and families. I founded Space & Grace because, simply, I care deeply about moms, families and children. I wanted to create a space where women and families can come to share joys and excitement, milestones and successes, and find support and guidance through challenges, worries and concerns. My knowledge, empathy and compassion guide my work and I am so excited to share this experience with you.
I received my Bachelor of Social Work degree from West Chester University and a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Clinical Practice with Families and Children from Monmouth University. I also hold a Certification in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International and I am Endorsed as an Infant Mental Health Specialist through the New Jersey Association for Infant Mental Health. Throughout my career thus far, I have held various positions, working with young children, families and other professionals in both state level policy work and clinical mental health roles.
In addition to my work in private practice, I am also employed as the Assistant Director for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation with Montclair State University. I have extensive training and expertise in trauma-informed care, family systems approach to care, biopsychosocial assessments, developmental and relational assessments of early childhood, perinatal mental health, and neurodevelopment. I utilize my vast training, experience and expertise to engage with women and families in innovative ways, bringing the family history, relational dynamics, and whole systems perspective to the therapeutic relationship.
I am excited to support women, infants, children, families and groups using non-judgmental, strengths-based therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
